Ford End Watermill – Private Tour and Demonstration – (Sun 25th Sept, 3pm-4pm)
25 September, 2022 at 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm
£2.50 – £4Join us on a private tour of Ford End Watermill. Ford End is a small farm mill, which has produced flour and animal feed for centuries. Although clear evidence of its early existence on the site has not been found, a possible reference to it was made in a document of 1232. It was later suggested that, in 1346, the mill belonged to the Neyrnut Manor at nearby Pitstone Green and the ‘Victoria County History of Buckinghamshire’ referred to ownership of a mill in Ivinghoe during the 14th Century. There are further references in 16th century documents to a mill in Ivinghoe however these do not identify the site positively as that of the mill at Ford End. The oldest verifiable date for the mill is a parish record of 1616.
It was beautifully restored by volunteers, and is now maintained and run by Ford End Watermill Society. It is the only remaining working watermill in Buckinghamshire with original machinery and retains all the atmosphere of a small farm mill of the late 1800’s.
The visit, which is child friendly and educational, will include a mill demonstration, water level permitting.
This tour is also taking place from 2pm – 3pm, book here.
