Grims Ditch and Cobblers Pits

This very varied walk takes in lovely woods, a hillfort, beautiful views over Aylesbury Vale and the peaceful Wendover Arm of the Grand Union Canal. In June you can experience one of the best displays of orchids anywhere in the Chilterns.

Ibstone and Turville

A walk on quiet rural paths with fine views and through pretty villages. The countryside has a peaceful, remote feeling despite being only a couple of miles from the M40 J5.

Bledlow & Lodge Hill

The walk starts from Bledlow which has been the setting for Midsomer Murders. From the top of Lodge Hill there are breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and you may even spot the windmill at Lacey Green. It then criss-crosses the main Chiltern Railway line before returning to the start.

Stanley Spencer’s Cookham

Sir Stanley Spencer was one of the most important painters of the 20th century. This walk will take you round his home village, a place he regarded as ‘heaven on earth’. It also ventures out into the surrounding countryside and alongside the Thames.

Pitstone Hill & Ashridge

This walk follows the ancient Ridgeway with stunning views from the top of Pitstone Hill, before returning through the beautiful woodland of the National Trust’s Ashridge Estate.

Kimpton Farmland and Nature Walk

The parish of Kimpton is criss-crossed by an extensive of public rights of way, some of them dating from
pre-Roman times. This walk explores the farmland north of the village which is rich in wildlife and there are
outstanding views.

Gade Valley Nature Walk

Gordon Beningfield was an artist with an international reputation for his beautiful depictions of the natural world. He spent many happy hours walking through the countryside with his close friend, naturalist and broadcaster Dennis Furnell. This walk, one of their favourites, is described by Dennis.

West Wycombe & Hughenden

Chiltern hillwalking at its best, linking the National Trust (NT) estates of West Wycombe Park and Hughenden, with wonderful views over the surrounding area. Don’t be put off by the amount of climbing involved, this walk is well worth the effort.

Sundon Hills Country Park

A short and easy walk that’s attractive at any time of year. Once you’ve entered the Country Park the rest of the route is quiet and peaceful, with magnificent views looking north into Bedfordshire and beyond.

Naphill Route

A scenic walk around Naphill. Full of interest: there is a fascinating history of WWII codebreaking and a visit to the home of a famous artist.

Chalfont St Giles and Chiltern Open Air Museum

A lovely walk that passes through woods and farmland with pleasant distant views. There are opportunities to visit Chiltern Open Air Museum and Milton’s Cottage.
