Ancient Ways: The History of the Ridgeway

22 September, 2023 at 6:30 pm until 9:00 pm

£12.50 Adult    BOOKINGS HAVE NOW CLOSED FOR THIS EVENT.
We are delighted to invite you to a lively talk from TV presenter and author Mary-Ann Ochota – who’s also the Ridgeway National Trail’s anniversary Patron for 2023.
The Ridgeway runs almost 90 miles from Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire to Avebury in Wiltshire. It tracks through the ancient woodlands of the Chilterns and over the wide, windswept Wessex Downs. It links some of the most ancient sites we can see in the British landscape today – iconic sites like the Uffington White Horse and Avebury Henge, as well as invisible lines like the boundary of King Alfred’s Kingdom of Wessex. Follow the Ridgeway and you walk through more than 6,000 years of British history.
So who were the people who lived and travelled on the route? What evidence did they leave? What mysterious histories are hidden in plain sight? In this lively talk we discover the traders, pilgrims, soldiers and farmers who created the Ridgeway and find out the best places to explore the route for ourselves.

We can’t wait to hear all about it.

The event will start at 6.30pm with refreshment and time to have a walk around Wycombe Museum, before the talk begins at about 7pm.
