HS2 across the Chilterns – 6th Update (Online Presentation and Discussion)
8 July, 2023 at 10:30 am until 12:00 pm
THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL. THE TALK WILL BE RECORDED AND THEN BE AVAILABLE TO VIEW ON YOUTUBE.
To follow on from the fifth event in January 2023, we are pleased to invite you to the sixth in a series of updates, showing the impact as HS2 continues across the Chilterns.
Construction is well under way and the impact can be clearly seen as the route exits the Chiltern Tunnel at South Heath. Construction of the viaduct across the Colne Valley Regional Park is proressing and the tunnel boring machines will have passed the Chalfont St Peter, Chalfont St Giles and Amersham vent shafts and be on their way towards the Little Missenden shaft. Work is also under way on construction of the north tunnel portal at South Heath. The temporary haul road along the route beyond South Heath is complete and excavation of the cuttings has started. There will be a full update on progress across both the Colne Valley Regional Park and the Chilterns with an overview of the progress across the Vale of Aylesbury.
Using a mixture of maps, pictures, visualisations and, most importantly, aerial photographs this talk will show the impact at a number of locations across the Colne Valley Regional Park as well as the Chilterns.
The talk will last for about 60 minutes with plenty of time for questions and discussion. Call-in details will follow nearer the time.
Keith Hoffmeister has been photographing the route ever since the plans were first revealed in 2010. He covered the whole route from Euston to Birmingham and published a DVD in 2012 as part of the Stop HS2 campaign. He was also instrumental in establishing the HS2 Photo Diary which appears on the Society’s website.
There will be an opportunity for questions at the end of the presentation which Keith will be more than happy to answer – please can you make sure that you keep the questions brief so that everyone has an opportunity to get involved.
The presentation will be uploaded to YouTube after the event – link here.
