Spring History Walk – Watlington Hill

15 May, 2022 at 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm

£4.00

Join Tim Horton, a former Lecturer and speaker, for a history (and some flora and fauna) walk on Watlington Hill.

Tim will discuss many special features for wildlife of this famous ‘outrider’ to the Chilterns. He will also take up the hill’s place in history for observation and the role of ancient tracts that have criss-crossed the area, especially since Saxon times. A special feature will be Watlington Park, nestling among the trees and loved by D.H. Lawrence and Alice Keppel. He will also relate the story of the adoption of Watlington Hill by the National Trust in the 1940s and will talk of the visitors to the area of the Hill… including DH Lawrence, Lord Kitchener, Edward Thomas, the poet and Oliver Cromwell.

The walk has no ascent, will be easy-paced and short-distanced. Meet at the NT car park on Hill Road Watlington (charges apply to non-members).
