Greatmoor Energy from Waste – Overview and Tour SORRY SOLD OUT
£7.50 per adult.
Greatmoor Energy from Waste takes household non-recyclable waste from throughout Buckinghamshire, diverts it from landfill and uses it to generate enough electricity to power 18% of homes in the county. The visit will begin with a presentation in Greatmoors fully accessible visitor centre, which is designed to inform about the benefits of using waste to produce renewable energy, as well as educating about waste reduction, reuse and recycling. This will be followed by a tour where you’ll see waste being delivered, giant grab cranes moving it and then the waste burning in the grate, before visiting the turbine hall and experiencing the draught under the condenser fans.
Tour lasts approximately 2 hours.
IMPORTANT – If any attendees have any health, mobility or behavioural issues that may be relevant to visiting the facility it is extremely important that we know before the visit. The generator in the turbine hall creates a powerful magnetic field, which may affect medical devices such as pacemakers.
Please let us know if you have any of the following: heart conditions, fear of heights, asthma, pacemakers or other items affected by magnetic fields, fear of enclosed spaces/lifts or lack of mobility.
Please note that income from this event is coming to the Chiltern Society as a charity to cover the overheads of our events programme. Income goes towards our work conserving and protecting the Chilterns.
