Chiltern Society Trustees

We are looking for passionate people with an interest in nature restoration, heritage and access across the wider Chilterns. As a volunteer-led organisation, our Trustees take on active roles with limited staff support and can get actively involved in many aspects of the wider Chilterns community.

If you also have professional knowledge or experience in the following areas, that can be a bonus:

  • Nature restoration and land management
  • Town and Country Planning policy
  • Access to the Countryside
  • Heritage and Culture

We are presently looking to fill two specific roles, one as General Secretary, and another as Chair of our Volunteer Committee.

The General (Company) Secretary: This is a key role within the Society as it includes the facilitation and preparation of the board meeting agenda, minutes and acting as Company Secretary. Legal experience would be a particular asset and/or experience as a Company Secretary. However, just being an excellent administrator may be sufficient.

The Volunteer lead: Chairing our Volunteer Committee, helping to improve the experience across 1000+ volunteer roles delivering impact across our 4 work streams: Nature, Planning, Heritage and Access. Combined with this role, having professional HR experience would be a distinct asset.

Like many of our trustee roles, time commitment will be dependant upon how involved you would like to be, but typically this will be at least 4-5 hours per week.

The Chiltern Society values diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds in these roles and for all others.

In addition to these two specific roles, we are always actively looking for trustees and volunteers who can add value to our work and represent the wider Chilterns community.

You may be considering your first step in a Trustee role or may have been involved with other community groups or been a trustee previously.

Please drop us a line and one of our team would be delighted to talk to you about this or other volunteer roles.

For further information or an informal chat please contact our staff volunteer manager on Tracey Read TraceyRead@chilternsociety.org.uk, or Chair Peter Phippen PeterPhippen@chilternsociety.org.uk.

To apply for a trustee role please send your CV and a covering letter to getinvolved@chilternsociety.org.uk

Closing date for Trustee expressions of interest is 31st January 2025

Interviews will take place in early February and successful candidates will be invited to

observe the next board meeting in March or May 2025.
