Chiltern Society Heritage & Cultural Festival 2024 – Volunteers Wanted
The Chiltern Society has, for the last six years, organised and run an annual two-week ‘Heritage and Culture Festival’ of events throughout the Chilterns designed to showcase everything that is wonderful about the area including aspects which are often overlooked such as the built environment, local histories and less-visited sites. The emphasis of the Festival is history, heritage and culture but that encompasses a wide spectrum of possibilities. The Festival takes place each year during the last two weeks of September.
Events which have proved hugely popular include visits to little-seen and historic houses, private and escorted visits to fascinating museums, history walks and a whole range of other unique trips open to Chiltern Society members and non-members alike.
The Festival is the biggest single event put on by the Society each year and it’s thanks to a small team of volunteers and staff that it continues to go from strength to strength.
Would you like to help with the organisation of the 2024 Festival? Have you ever thought ‘I’d love to have a private look around that museum’ or ‘wouldn’t it be great to hear an expert tell me about that lovely old church’?
If so, here’s your chance to make those things happen!
Join the volunteer Festival group, come up with and scope-out your suggestions for an event, make contact with the organisers and work out a formula for a memorable visit. Bookings and other administration are dealt with by a small and brilliantly efficient team in the Society’s office at Chesham.
You’ll need to have a decent knowledge of the Chilterns, be discerning in your choice of events, attend a number of daytime group meetings through the year and be happy to marshal an event when the doors are opened and the visitors are let in!
Does that wet your appetite? Call Geoff Wiggett (Festival group) on 01442 875906 or 07826 828217 for a chat or email geoffreywiggett@btinternet.com to register your interest.
