Prestwood Local Nature Reserve

This 4.5 acre site consists of a combination of chalk grassland and scrub areas that make it abundant in wildlife with an incredible diversity of wildflowers.

In recognition of its value to the local community for recreation and study, the site was officially designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1993. The taller vegetation enclosing the reserve includes trees such as maple, cherry, beech, walnut and even the rare wild pear. It provides nesting sites for birds and cover for mammals such as wood mice, voles and muntjac. 

It is hard to believe that this peaceful nature reserve was used as a car dump in the 1970s. Thanks to the effort of volunteers, it is now a great place to see wild flowers and butterflies in the summer months.
