Watlington Hoard Replica – Viewing (Open Afternoon)

September 19 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The original Hoard, which dated back as far as Saxon/Viking times, was found in fields near to the town of Watlington in October 2015. It was not particularly large, but it contained 13 extremely rare ‘Two Emperor’ coins that are believed to represent Alfred the Great, King of Wessex (871-99AD).

You are invited to Watlington Library for a a private viewing of the Hoard replica (commissioned by the people of Watlington and made by the Ashmolean). There will be volunteers on hand to answer questions and you will also have the opportunity to handle some of the replica coins.

If there is a need to allocate specific half hour time slots nearer the time we will confirm.

All events will comply with government guidelines on Covid-19, applicable at the time.  If any Covid-19 outbreaks occur, or new restrictions are imposed, the event will be cancelled and a full refund given.
