Walk With The Authors & Pub Lunch
£29 – £50
Join local authors, Helen & Neil Matthews, on a quintessentially Chiltern walk to mark the launch of their new book Slow Travel: The Chilterns & The Thames Valley, followed by lunch at the Stag and Huntsman in Hambleden.
The walk combines typical Chilterns countryside and villages with stretches along the river Thames. The walk will start in the pretty village of Hambleden, before heading down to Mill End, strolling through a riverside meadow with sheep and geese for company and finally passing through Medmenham, before returning through woodland to the Stag and Huntsman for lunch.
In addition to the walk itself, the ticket price includes a 2 course lunch and a copy of Helen and Neil’s new book; the only guidebook available to cover the Chilterns and Thames Valley in depth, with a bonus chapter on the Vale of Aylesbury.
The book celebrates the region’s flora and fauna (with notes by local expert Tony Marshall); the market towns and villages with their brick and flint architecture, their quirks and traditions; the stories of rulers, rebels, writers and artists who’ve lived and worked here; and some of the exciting tastes that local food and drink producers are creating. It’s published by Bradt Travel Guides, an award-winning firm based in Chalfont St Peter, as part of their Slow Travel series on Britain’s special places. Slow Travel encourages you to take your time to savour the local differences and nuances that make up a sense of place – and the Chilterns is the quintessential Slow Travel destination.
