The Chalk Streams of Princes Risborough
A guided walk exploring the chalk springs and streams in the countryside around Princes Risborough, organised jointly by our Rivers & Wetlands Group and the Risborough Environment Group. We know about the Chiltern rivers, such as the Chess and Wye which are on the dip slope of the Chiltern Hills, but the springs and brooks on the northern scarp slope are often ignored although they are a vital part of the Chiltern water resource.
This circular walk, starting at the Lions of Bledlow Pub, will explore the streams, springs and many ponds between Bledlow and Risborough, during which we will see water bubbling up or oozing out from the chalk, clear streams flowing through pretty countryside and the effects of human development on them. The walk will end at the spectacular Lyde Gardens in Bledlow, which is a natural arena containing many active springs that has been landscaped: the wildflowers should be spectacular in May.
There will be an optional pub lunch at The Lions Of Bledlow which must be booked in advance.
All are welcome to attend, but advance booking is required in all cases. Please email Doug Kennedy – firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to come along, stating whether you want to reserve lunch at the pub.
