The Amersham Repertory Theatre 1936 – 1949 Illustrated Talk (Mon 19th Sept, 3pm-5pm)

19 September at 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm

Join us on an illustrated talk about the fascinating history of the Playhouse Theatre in Amersham between 1936 and 1949.

During the war years, and just before and after it, Amersham was the home of an enterprising Repertory Theatre Company run by two remarkable women of the theatre – Sally Latimer and Caryl Jenner.

Local actor Stan Pretty, Director of The Amersham Martyrs Community Play, will tell the story of this important part of local and national theatre history which he has researched from the copious collection of memorabilia in the Amersham Museum, as well as from the local press and periodicals of the time.

It is a tale of extraordinary vicissitudes and achievements against considerable odds, laced with the humour of the protagonists themselves and vignettes of life in Amersham during these difficult years.

Interval refreshments of tea, coffee and biscuits will be available and are included in the price.

Unfortunately Amersham Museum is not open on this day, see here for opening times.

All events will comply with government guidelines on Covid-19, applicable at the time.  If any Covid-19 outbreaks occur, or new restrictions are imposed, the event will be cancelled and a full refund given.
