Private & Exclusive Tour of the Wormsley Library and Cricket Pavilion
SORRY – THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED
Owned by the Getty Family, Wormsley is a beautiful 18th century estate nestled in the heart of the Chilterns. Guests at this exclusive event will enjoy a private tour of its world famous library, which houses one of the finest private collections in the country. The theme of the library is the Art of the Book. Works dates from a 7th century fragment which lays claim to being the earliest English manuscript, through to flamboyant and elegant 20th century bindings. Highlights of the collection are almost too numerous to mention but include rich and vivid medieval illuminated manuscripts dating from the 12th-15th centuries; the first edition of Caxton’s printing of The Canterbury Tales; Anne Boleyn’s Psalter and the first folio of Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories and Tragedies.
Along with delightful refreshments overlooking the cricket ground, guests will be guided through the mock-Tudor thatched Cricket Pavilion, with its distinctive facade, players’ balconies and cricket bat balusters for a sneak preview of all its hidden memorabilia.
We are running 3 tours throughout the afternoon, as follows:
