Meet by the entrance to Berkhamsted Railway Station, Lower Kings Rd, HP4 2AJ – free car parking nearby at Canal Fields, Broadwater turn-off (postcode HP4 1HR).

From the station we walk up to Berkhamsted Hill with great views down to the ruins of Berkhamsted castle. Joining the common we continue through the woodlands passing the WWI trenches to reach Frithsden Beeches, and returning across farmland to Castle Hill. A distance of 5.5 miles with 550ft of ascent and descent and no stiles.
