Great Missenden & Surrounding Areas Trail Run
Take in famous historical sites of the Chilterns at a pace! A stunning 9 or 12 mile social run which has a brilliant mixture undulating terrain across fields, footpaths and numerous woodlands. You will explore some of the Chiltern Society’s famous sites including John Hampden Monument and Lacey Green Windmill. There will be the opportunity to stop and enjoy refreshments and take in your surroundings.
The run will be led by the Tim & Chris from Runaway. Tim recently ran the entire 134 miles of the Chiltern Way to highlight the great work the Chiltern Society does to care for the local landscape.
Tim and Chris have plotted two separate route distances so you can choose on the day to run either the 15km (9 mile) or the longer 20km (12 mile) loop.
Pacing & difficulty
As this is a group run, it’s important you are happy with the pace and difficulty of the adventure so that you can enjoy the experience to its maximum. For these runs the group will be split into two with one group running at an average pace of 6:00min/km (9:40min/mile) and a second group running at 6:45min/km (10:50min/mile). For a run of 16km (10 miles) this will take around 1h45 for the first group and 2 hours for the second.
If you are new to trail running, remember that the off-road terrain and added elevation make running harder. So there will be times (going up hills) where you will run slower than the pace above, but also times where you will run slightly faster (on flatter or downhill areas). You will also have one or two stops on routes to enjoy the viewpoints and take a photo.
When planning the routes Tim and Chris aim for a mixture of flatter runnable terrain with some hillier and more technical sections, so there will be times that you may need to push yourself a little harder.
