Come along to our woodland conference hosted by local expert John Morris, Director of the Chilterns Woodland Project. You’ll hear a number of talks and presentations on various aspects of woodland management and local wildlife, and after lunch (included in the price) we’ll be heading over to one of our very own woodland sites nearby for a more practical session.
The itinerary for the day is as follows:
9.30 – 9.45am Register & Coffee
Welcome and introduction – Chairman, David Harris (Chiltern Society)
9.50 – 10.35 Tackling pests and diseases in London – how to reduce their impact in the Chilterns Craig Harrison Forestry Commission London – Oak processionary moth and other threats.
10.35 – 11.20 “How Resilient are our Woodland’s today?” John Weir, Adivsor to the Forestry Commission on Woodland Creation and Resilience.
11.20 – 11.40 Comfort break
11.40 – 11.50 LEADER Grant support for Forestry – Ian Barrow
11.50 – 12. 30 Lowland broadleaved woodland management and conservation of woodland birds – Paul Bellamy, RSPB
12.30 – 12.55 Chalk, Cherries and Chairs Landscape Partnership – Nick Marriner on new Heritage Lottery application for the central Chilterns
1pm – 1.45pm Buffet Lunch

2pm – 4pm Afternoon visit to Brush Hill and Whiteleaf Hill Woods, to consider tree species choices and woodland management issues.
