Lacey Green Windmill Wardens

Lacey Green Windmill is the oldest surviving smock mill in England and its important timber machinery is over 350 years old. By the late 1960s the mill had deteriorated and was on the verge of collapse. Restoration started in 1971 and it took more than fifteen years for Chiltern Society volunteers to return its former glory.  Today the Windmill is fully preserved and maintained by volunteers who are delighted to be able to share it with the public.

We are looking for volunteer Wardens and Assistant Wardens to greet visitors and show them around this prestigious landmark. The Windmill is open to the public on Sundays and Bank Holidays from April – September and during National Mills Weekend. There is always a Warden and Assistant Warden on duty who provide visitors an opportunity to explore and understand this unique historic building and the milling process.  If you can spare 2 or 3 afternoons during the open season this would be perfect and will be a great introduction to volunteering and provides a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded people.

We would also welcome help with publicity and admin duties, neither of these roles will be onerous but will be very much appreciated.

You will not need a detailed knowledge of windmills as training will be offered.

Lacey Green is about 2 miles south of Princes Risborough and the 300 bus (Aylesbury to High Wycombe) stops nearby so, if you don’t drive, getting there couldn’t be easier.
